The Amateu Radio Service (ARS) is a group of radio operators, frequently known as //hams// who are licensed by national governments. In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission is the licensing agency for the Amatuer Radio Service.
Hams provide their own radio equipment and, by regulation, are prohibited from receiving compensation for their services.

§97.1 Basis and purpose.
The rules and regulations in this Part are designed to provide an amateur radio service having a fundamental purpose as expressed in the following principles:

I am a software developer, restructured out of HP early in 2006, and recently decided I am retired, not unemployed. I live north of Houston in The Woodlands.
I know enough about hardware to be dangerous but not enough to feel comfortable doing RF design. I have worked with microprocessor embedded systems and intend to use that experience in the development of any stand alone devices needed for [[The Ham Network |Home]].
In large part, I am interested in [[The Ham Network |Home]] because of my involvement with ARES to support digital communications in disaster situations. I can be reached by emailing my callsign AT arrl.net
